-4-Colonel John Dement, after a lingering illness of many months, died this morning at two o’clock. The funeral will take place from the M. K. church in this city at two o’clock on Friday afternoon.John Dement was born April 2Gth, 1804, in Gallatin, Tennessee; and was, consequently, at the time of his death, within a few months of being 79 years old. \\ hen 18 years old lie removed with his parents to Franklin county, this state, and located upon a farm, where he made his home until 21 years of age, when he was elected to the office of sheriff. In 1828 he was elected to represent Franklin county In the legislature, and in 1880 was re-elected. Subsequently he was elected by the general assembly as treasurer of the state for three successive terms.
