Once again the Oakbank Springfield Lions Club will be hosting the Mushing for Mira cles dog sled teams when they arrive in the Springfield area on their fund raising run through Manitoba to raise funds for the Canadian Cancer Society. This year the teams will arrive from Lorette on Sunday, Feb. 18th, coming up Highway 206 and stopping at the Dugald Community Club for a pancake brunch. The teams will then run on to Oakbank accompanied by some local mushers for a recep tion. This year’s fundraiser will take the form of a steak dinner and draw, to be held at the Dugald Community Club, from 4 PM to 8:30 PM. Tickets are $20.00, which entitles you to a steak din ner, and a chance at some cash prizes. The first ticket drawn that night will win $200.00, each 25th ticket will win $25.00, and the last ticket drawn will win $500.00. The tickets will be limited to 250, so everyone will have a very good chance of win ning. Hotdogs and munchies will be available for the kids, so the whole family can attend. A very special guest will be riding in one of the sleds when they arrive here. Mackenzie Sobie, a seven year old resident of Oakbank, is a cancer patient whose disease is now in remis sion. He has attended the family camp put on by the Cancer Soci ety, and will be attending the camps for kids program this com ing summer. This is one of the programmes supported by mon ey raised by the Mushing for Miracles dog sled run. The run this year will cover about 1,000 kilometres, and is being done by four sled teams. This is a great opportunity for you and your family to support an important cause, meet some very dedicated people and their wonderful dogs, enjoy a delicious dinner prepared by members of the Lions Club, and if lucky, take some spending money back home with you. Times of arrival have not been finalized yet. The schedule at the moment calls for an arrival in Dugald at about 10 AM, and into Oakbank about 1 pm. Check this newspaper for further up dates, or watch M.T.N. during the weather reports for up to the minute information while the run IS IN progress. The Oakbank Springfield Lions Club is proud to be associ ated with this cause, and urge all residents of the area to come out and support this fund raising ef fort. See you there.
