Letters to the EditorA community forum for your viewsLions helpersTo the Editor:At year-end and following our last project of the year, the Mokena Lions Club takes time to convey our most heart-felt thanks to all those who have helped us to help others. It is the people of the community who provide donations and gifts that allow the Mokena Lions Club to help others in our community. Our last project of the year was to distribute Christmas baskets to nearly 30 families on Dec. 18. Of all the fund-raising and assistance projects that the Lions participate in, it is with the Christmas and Easter basket distributions that we truly feel the worth of our efforts.During this past year, the Mokena Lions provided help to numerous individuals and families in the community that required sight and hearing assistance. Included was the arranging and subsidizing of a much needed eye operation for a middle aged man. Also help continues to be provided to a 2-year-old child with a vision impairment disease. All the club’s members put in their time and efforts to help the blind, hard-of-hearing and people in need in the community. Even the American flags that fly our main streets are provided and maintained by the Lions. When we ask for help and donations, weare asking for the means to help others. Each member is extremely thankful for everyone’s continued support of our 40-year-old local club. When you help the Mokena Lions you are supporting club projects that include:Sight/hearing assistance, senior citizens, Leader Dog assistance, eyeglass collections, Camp Lions grants, Lincon-Way band, Mokena Park District, Mokena Fire Department, Mokena ESDA unit.Lions International Foundation, Trinity School, Easter and Christmas baskets, eye/hearing mobile units, Lincoln-Way scholarships, children’s Easter egg hunt, MokenaBoy Scouts.Mokena library, Mokena Police Department, Mokena tot park and Hadley School for the Blind.Again, our sincerest thank you and we wish everyone a healthy and happy new year. The Mokena Lions Club Bill Aldridge, publicity chairman Jack Stewart, first vice presidentBuy Howell airportTo the Editor:Being a resident of New Lenox Township for the past 20 years and a neighbor to Howell Airport, I’m concerned about the future
