Mayor Roy Laird of Kilgore was a Hawkins visitor Saturday in company with Verne Fagin also of Kilgore and Dr. Harold Vance, of the petroleum department of Tex as A. and M. College and Dr. Sam Goldich, geologist of Texas A. and M. Mayor Laird laughed when he referred to what a certain news paper had said about not wanting Hawkins to be another Kilgore. The Mayor said, ‘I want the read ers of the Hawkins Herald to know that Kilgore is one of the best oil towns in America and it has money too, the city has a fine city hall, paved streets, best schools in East Texas and a Junior College and good police and fire departments, and oil on the town site is paying the bill.” Those who listened to the May or could not help but agree with him.
