David Archer Given Manslaughter Sentence for Murder of its Wife. The trial of David Archer for the murder of his wife, which was be gun last Thursday, went to the jury at 9 o'clock Tuesday night. After fifteen hours of deliberation the jury returned a verdict of manslaughter, which means from two to twenty one years in the penitentiary. The case was hard fought from a legal standpoint, as the defense went to trial on a plea of insanity. It was proven that at the time of the crime the defendant was of sound mind. «A large number of witnesses on both sides were examined. The defense was represented by attorneys Guy H. Humphreys and Claude E. Grevy, while Prosecuting attorney Wm. L. Rade was assisted by James M. Hudson. Archer was brought into court this (Thursday) morning to receive his sentence. When asked by the court if he had anything to say why judgment should not be pronounced on him he answered, ‘‘I don't know that there is. The following cases on the crim inal docket have been disposed of since last week: Four cases of visiting gaming house against Geo. McIntosh, were stricken from the docket with leave to re-instate, State vs. Frank May, blind tiger; stricken from docket, State vs. John Kiser, blind tiger; stricken from docket with leave to re-instate, , State vs. Dick Cosner, visiting gaming house; stricken from docket, several cases on the docket against persons for sale to minors were con tinued for want of proper evidence, as were also several blind tiger cases. The following cases on the civil docket have been disposed of since last week: Jessie R. McClure had her divorce proceedings against Robert G. Mc Clure dismissed. Edward J. King and Michael Yung vs. Charles W. Hall, attach ment; funding for plaintiffs for $07.09. John Simmons was granted a di vorce from Ian Simmons. Laura Small et al. vs. Martha Smith, partition; commissioners ap pointed, partition made, report to court, report approved and commis sioners discharged, Mary M. Mitchell was granted a divorce from Joseph L. Mitchell and given custody of minor children. Claude S. Moss vs. Andrew Mont gomery, chattel mortgwage, judg ment for fididu. Fred Hasler vs. John G. Roach es tate; settled and dismissed. Minnie Cox vs Edward Cox, di vorcs, Plaintifferanted decree of divorce and name changed to Stilt, Sarah F. Wells vs. Christian Dan ielson, et al, note; judgment for $122.80, Charles, Lind vs. Walter Lind and May Lind, to enforce tien; dis missed. The following new suits have been filed since last week: Harry Doyle vs. Jonathan row er, petition for guardian, Alice Mitehull vs. Loucetta Brown, subrogation,. Marcie Gastineau, of Linton, has brought suit for divorcee from Ora Gastineau, and allowes in her com plaint that he was cruel, cross, and at times came home late at night ine toxicated, that she used bin to come home at all times, and that he alowed their household woods to be removed from the house because of a morteave and that he did so to yet nhother. She asks the court for all proper relief from the bonds of matrimony and alimony of $5.06 per week for support of infant child, Mary E. Norris, of Wright town ship, has brought suit for separation from Daniel E. Norris. In her com plaint she alleges that at the Sep tember, 101], term of court she applied for a divorce on grounds of his being a habitual drunkard and failing to provide for his family; that at that time he promised to reform and proceedings were dismissed. That he did reform for awhile but that later he returned to his old habits. She now asks the court for separation and $500 alimony and $5.00 per week for support of minor children.
