Both Ruckel Junior High cage teams defeated Meigs, the Richbourg Roadrunners swept a pair from Lewis, while both Bruner teams split with their competition as the Orange boys defeated Pryor and the Blue girls ousted Jinks, in a free slate of junior high school basketball action Monday night. Burley Bonner lead three players in double figures with 28 points in the Richbourg boys’ 77-55 victory over Lewis. Joey Parker nailed 14 markers and Aaron Tew 12. Yamaji Collins hit the backboards for 11 of the Roadrun ners’ 49 rebounds, Bonner grabbed 10 and Tew nine. Falcon Cornell Tinner burned the nets for 29 points and David Hodges added 10 as Lewis slipped to 1-3. Richbourg, 3-1, maintained a steady lead from the opening quarter as they outscored the Falcons every quarter except the last, maintaining a 40-20 lead at halftime and 60-33 spread after three periods. Eric Pittman sank both ends of a one-and-one to put Jinks into a 60-59 lead, then Marc Marcus iced the win with another pair of freebies as the Jinks Hornets nip ped Bruner Blue 62-59 despite a hot 39-point and 16 rebound perfor mance by Blue’s Randy Florence. Blue held a fragile 18-15 first quarter lead, but Jinks recaptured the advantage at halftime 30-24 behind Pittman’s nine second quarter points. Blue surged back in front after outscoring Jinks 23-15 the third frame aided by nine points from Florence, a 6-1 ninth grade freshman. Jinks then outscored the Spartans 17-12 the final frame for the win, leaving both teams with 2-3 season records. Pittman paced the Hornets with 15 points and nine rebounds, while Greg Rulhac chipped in 10 markers. Kenny Felder scored 13 points and pulled down 11 rebounds, while Dave Anderson chipped in 10 points to pace Ruckel, now 3-3, to a 48-44 victory over Meigs. Meigs, 3-2, was led by Mike Leone’s 12 points. Ruckel led 32-25 after three quarters and held on to win as Meigs scored 19-fourth quarter points to the Rams’ 16. Chris Brower poured in 10 of his game-high 26 points the first period as Bruner Orange outscored Pryor 14-6 that frame and made their lead stand up as they defeated the Pirates 64-56 at the Pryor gym. Kory McGowan donated 22 points and 18 rebounds to the Orange, 3-1, attack. Shaun Brown, Jeff Scaife and Scott Renshaw tallied 12 points apiece for Pryor, 0-4. Guard Anna Turner outscored the entire Lady Falcon team as she poured in 33 points, including 11 the first quarter as Richbourg jumped off to a quick 23-4 lead en route to a decisive 72-30 victory over the Lewis Lady Falcons. Louise Bonner and Felicia Hartley bagged eight points apiece for the Lady Roadrunners, 2-2. Joanne Doucette nailed six points for the Lady Falcons, 1-3. e@Kelli Bray, Melissa Dorman and Safina Turner teamed up for 43 points to lead Bruner Blue’s Lady Spartans over the Jinks Hornets 54-31 at Panama City. Bray poured in six first quarter points as Blue took a 13-8 lead, and the Spartans padded it to 29-14 at the half. Bray ended the night with 17 points and hauled in 15 rebounds, Dorman chipped in 14 markers and Turner contributed 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds for Blue, now 3-2. Steffie Gray scored a team high 13 points, five coming in the deciding second overtime, to give Pryor a 35-30 double-overtime vic tory. Shanon Norviel had 12 re bounds for Pryor. The score was tied at 26-all at the end of regulation and 28-all after the first overtime. But Pryor coach John Gaskin, whose team is now 4-0, instructed his team to double-team the ball at halfcourt and as a result the Lady Pirates outscored Orange 7-2 in the final OT. Carolyn Streeter had 14 points for Orange, 1-3. ®@Cherry Malik and Robin Hem merman scored in double figures to lead the Rucket attack as the Lady Rams downed Meigs 47-41. Malik had a team-high 18 points, while Hemmerman chipped in 14. Amy Welch pulled down 12 re bounds for the 5-0 Lady Rams. Jennifer Martin scored 23 points and had 16 rebounds for Meigs.
