Hook, chairman of the department, believes that ‘‘Mr. Broten’s prolonged and intensive exposure over a period of one month will give the students a strong career model ” This is the first year the sociol-ogy-anthropology has sponsored such a professional-in-residence program similar to that of the music department in late fall.Mr. Broten has an extensive background in social work. He was at one time associate director of a group care project and lecturer at the School of Social Work at the U of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, for five years. He has worked for the Lutheran Child Welfare Association and been program director for Chapel Hall, a child-caring institution. Broten has also been a resident and recreation leader at the U. of Chicago Settlement House.His written studies include Houseparents in Children's Institutions and Readings for Houseparents in Children's Institutionswhich he eoedited. He has established many institutions and workshops acrbss the country pertaining to programs of child-caring institutions and residential treatment centers. At one time he also served on the Child Welfare League of America. Broten’s month-in-residence is the first phase of the undertaking from which the area will also benefit. Staffs from childcare institutions in Central Pennsylvania will be meeting with Broten throughout the month of January.A Gettysburg College Forum, stafan outgrowth of the Study and of 1Referral Committee on Mora- par;torium Issues, is in the process slueof being formed. The Forum will senlbe composed of faculty, administrators, students, and board members.Designed to improve communication between the fourprincipal parts of the college, the Forum is to provide a channel for open discussion and debate.
