Alsip TalksAnnexationLiquor SalelVNo final decisions were reached by Alsip’s board of trustees at an open meeting held. Monday night to discuss the annexation of Garden Homes to the village.Residents of the unincorporated area presented their views on the annexation and pointed out the problems which must be settled before annexation could take place. One problem which must be resolved is the matter of the fire department of Garden Homes. An agreement must be reached, they said, as to whether the department equipment will be handed over to Alsip in the event of the annexation, or sold to the village and which of the two fire chiefs will assume command of the department.Melvin Harmes, 11710 S. Hamlin ave., said that the assessed valuation of the unincorporated area was well over $1 million. He added that commerciallyGarden Homes had nothing to offer Alsip, just as Alsip had nothing to offer the unincorporated area. What Alsip would be getting was good citizens, hesaid. The trustees made’ it clear they didn’t approve having small portions of Garden Homes annexed to the village. The trustees told the members to continue with their canvass of the area. Ed Kahoun, 3830 W. 119th st. said that a recent can-vass had been taken of 80 per cent of the residents of the unincorporated area and that 85 per cent were in favor of annexing to the village.Another matter which was discussed was the issuance of pack-r| age liquor licenses in Alsip it-jself.! Petitions from the Atwood Heights Brethren church and the Alsip Reform church asked that licenses not be issued. Spokesmen for the churches said they were against any type of liquor sales.Other people said they were afraid of the opening of‘stores which sold package liquor exclusively.. Another petition containing 1178 names of persons in favor of the issuance of licenses -was also ^ presented.Residents explained that they I felt the village should take ad-ghI vantage of the extra revenueI which would be derived from j the sale of licenses. They also pointed out that residents could easily go out of the village limits to buy liquor and therefore the village was losing i c money. £The matter was referred to the ^ | trustees for study. j| _ - ^ . jj.P.TA Fvppniivpt Rpvipu U
