Principia College May Be Rival of Shurtleff-! New co-educational college to be built on the Piasa Bluffs will be ; ShurtlefT’s neighbor in the near future. Principia, a Christian Science institution, is to cost $3,500,000. Construction of the school will begin in the spring and it has been planned to build to accomodate between 350 and 400 students; new buildings to be added as the enrollment increases. Approximately 1300 acres have been secured and are situated ideally for! college purpose on the beautiful bluffs of the Mississippi. The new college will mean a great deal to Shurtleff. The two schools will not draw the same students but the colleges can combine forces for the benefit of the students of each. It is expected that Alton will become more of a college town than ever and will welcome the new school for the trade it will bring while Shurtleff welcomes her new neighbor and waits for this new alliance hopefully.
