Fined for Beating Daughter.Ben Pring, who with his family lives in a cabin up the river near Flint, was arrested and brought to this city Tuesday on a warrant charging assault and battery. The complainant was Barbara Pring, his 18-year-old daughter. The father had come home drunk and abusive and an altercation soon ensued. Pring knockt the girl down and put her out of the wretched little shack in which the family lives. Family rows were not infrequent and the condition in the home is a deplorable one. Barbara is a sturdy young woman and for several years her father has forced her to help in his manual labor and the neighbors have become accustomed to seeing her going about clothed partially in male attire, husking corn, chopping wood etc. For some time she has been working as a shoveler in the flint beds at the stone-crushing plant, where it is j said that her father collects her earnings, The girl has left home two orthree times before but returned after a time. When put out by her father last week she walkt to Riverside, and later went to Lafayette on the train. There she went to the Union mission, maintained by Rev. Yeazel, who once before had secured employment for her. Pring went to Lafayette after her but the preacher caused his arrest and he was brought to this city where Barbara appeared Tuesday to prosecute him. She was accompanied by the preacher who took her back to Lafayette and will find work for her there. When arraigned before Mayor Reed Pring plead guilty and was fined $5.00 and costs, $15 in all. He spent Tuesday j night in the city jail but on Wednesday, Mr. Mormon, manager of the stone-crushing plant at Flint, came to the city and stayed the fine.
