Ellis C. Seale has taken charge of the night school. Miss Sarah Jerman, a graduate of the Berea Training School for Nurses, is in charge of the Hospital until a new superintendent can be installed. Patients will be received and cared for as heretofore. Mrs. Jennie Les ter Hill exercises a general supervi sion of the work for the present. The registration of pupils for this term has already passed the seven hundred and fifty mark, and still they come. Miss Rose McFarren arrived Saturday from Mt. Vernon; Misses Nancy Huff and Stacy Lewis Sunday morning from Maggard; Robert Spence, Clay county, and Anthony Holland, Laurel county. Prof. J. M. Literal, formerly super intendent of Schools in Greenup county, Ky., has been added to Berea’s corps of teachers. Prof. Literal re ceived his education at State College, Lexington, and at a normal school in Southern Indiana, being a graduate of the latter school. He comes high ly recommended, and has already made many friends. The Berea College band of eighteen pieces is practicing hard to get ready for a grand concert to be given in the Tabernacle Tuesday night, Jan. 27. The Band will be assisted by the charming soprano soloist, Miss Mar tha Gamble, who is a sister of Secre tary Gamble. The students and pub lic in general may look forward to a rare musical treat in this entertain ment. At the instigation of some of our most progressive students two com panies of cadets have been organized. United States army regulations have been adopted as far as practical. C. D. Lewis and J. M. Literal, both ex perienced drill men, are captains. 8S. G. Muncey and Steve Gabbard are lieutenants. This is an important step in advance, and members of these companies will not only obtain physical and mental training, but will learn how to obey, which is necessa ry, before one can command success fully.
