More than 80 Civil Air Patrol cadets from Cru sader, GarTex, Thunderbolt and Duncanville Squadrons of the 4th Group participated in simulated search and rescue missions recently The cadets camped out two nights and centered their search activities at the Decatur Airport. Under the supervision of senior CAP personnel, the cadets attended classes at the Type “‘B’’ encampment. The classes cov eredommunications, ground teams and food prepara tion. The classes were held each day. During the encampment, senior CAP personnel supervised while the cadets were given information con cerning the ‘‘lost’’ aircraft and three dummies. Planes were dispatched to the areas in which the cadets, acting as observers, searched for any possible sightings of missing aircraft. On the ground, the communications team manned the radio, keeping aircraft and mission control in con tact. The cadets on ground teams went out by vehicle and on foot to confirm any sightings made by the observ ers. Cadet debriefing officers gathered all information from all returning teams and assembled it until a ‘‘most probable”’ area developed. Late that evening, the ‘‘lost aircraft’’ aid dummies were sighted and the mission was completed successfully.
