MIDDLETOWN, Ohio (AP) — Americana Amusement Park, which began as LeSourdesville Lake in 1926, has ceased operations, at least for the 2000 season. “The park is a wonderful family place and we have enjoyed being a part of this area’s business community,” John Ellison, the park’s vice president and general manager, said Thursday. “However, even with a considerable amount of time and effort expended by all of our employ ees, attendance did not reach expected levels, and so this difficult deci sion had to be made.” The park 20 miles north of Cincinnati has rides, swimming and pic nic areas. It has drawn about 25 million people over the years, accord ing to estimates by the owner, Park River West, a subsidiary of Park River Corp. of Cincinnati. In October, the park paid a $12,825 fine imposed by the U.S. Department of Labor because some teenage employees worked more hours or later than permitted by the Fair Labor Standards Act.
