Tough Nght, ma, but— Corry Area High School's Beavers unleashed a savage at tack against the powerful Prank lin grapplers last night, toppling the Knights, 31-10. It was the first sip of victory for the Orange and Black who won their first meet after four agonizing losses Coch Bob Mulvin's hungry crew lacked a big loss on the scrappy Knights who had de signs on the Section II crown this year 11 Was a most signifi cant victory in light of the fact that Franklin smothered Titus ville, Corry conqueror, by a 2 32-16 score early in the season. The Malvin men took seven of the 12 matches last evening, scoring three pins against the in vaders. For the first time this year the Orange and Black matmen were victorious in their fist three matches, scoring falls in the first and third events and led, 14-0 before yielding a point. Pins were scored by Dale Fra lick, John Savko and Don Buell in that order. Fralick chalked up his fourth second-period fall in five match es by putting Bill Grannis’ away with 1:30 showing in the stanza. Savko pressed the unbeaten Blu Lawrence in the 112-pound class and Buell finished Dave Dunn, both in the first chapter. Bob Roden, visibly slowed with an extracted tooth, still turned in a sparkling victory in the 180- pound class, outpointing Bill White, 11-7. Roden's triumph clinched the verdict and gave Corry its first taste of victory. Despite the fact that Coach Mulvin was forced to utilize three substitutes,the local mat men turned in a glittering all around, showing against the Venango Countians. Two of the three fill-ins, Larry Puckley and David Johnson, suf fered losses but not before a furious scrap. Puckley covered himself with glory by staying with the experienced Dan Scurry who is the scourge of the 134- pound division in the Section. Bill Swarm, filling in for the injured Tom Brady in the un limited division, displayed out standing ability as he used his football blue strength to throw Jack Ewing all over the mat be fore pinning him in the wild period Perhaps the most exciting of his 12 matches was the 154-pound division where Corry's Ray Mit chell and Rick Ditzenberger went a bit for six solid minutes with a total of 29 points racked up. Ditzenberger, one of the high est rated grapplers in the area and a defending Section 11 champion, finally won a 17-12 nod but had all he could handle in the powerful Mitchell. Mit chell called on all his football muscle to battle his sparkling foe to the final buzzer. Fralick got his mates off and winging for the fourth time in five meets with his pin and Cor ry led, 5-0. Bill Eaton then de cisioned John Nalepa to give the Malvin men an 8-0 lead. Savko then upped its season total to 17 points with a sensa ional first-period press of Law rence who had been dropping everyone in sight. Corry now led, 14-0. Johnson suffered a third-per iod fall and Franklin entered the scoring column for the first time, 14-5 In the 127-pound division Gary Donaldson came through with a close decision over Jack Judson for a 17-5 Corry advantage. Puckley’s loss to Scurry brought the count to 17-B before Patter son was pinned in the second frame, making the score 17-13. Buell then gave Corry six points and 4 commanding 23-13 lead with his first period fall. Mitchell's classic scrap with Ditzenberger followed and the Score narrowed to 23-16. Aldo Gremese went all the way with Dick Reisinger before bow ing by a decision. This made the score a inewsy go 19 as Roden came forth amid deafening cheers. Bob the Beast didn’t disap point the gallery as he scuffled through six minutes in a weak ened condition, emerging vic toriows and clinching the most. In the final scrap of the happy evening Swarm turned in his splendid job and gave the Deny ers another five points. it was a most gratifying vic tory for the local wrestlers and their following. The Orange and Black looked strong in every di vision, even in the losing match es Next match for the locals is the all-important return en gagement with Section champion Oil City at the local gym—next Thursday.
