The verdict in part follows: “We, the jury, find the defendant guilty as charged, with a recommendation of mercy.” Henry a as sentenced to serve 120 days in jail and pay the costs of the case. The case will be appealed to the district court. Commissioner Hcilig fixed the bond at $1,000, which will probably be arranged for by this morning. The charge was brought by N. R. King and was caused by an article which appeared in the Free Press a short time ago, stating that some of the subscribers’ papers bad been stolen, and that if Mr. King was too cheap to buy a paper ho would be presented with one. The defense set up was that the article does not constitute libel, and that it was simply an offer on the part of the editor to present Mr. King with a copy of his | publication.—Citizen.
