•DEATH BY DROWNING.' Peter Rice, a member of the First Artillery Band, stationed at Fort Adams, disappeared Sunday. His cap was found on the Fort wharf Tuesday morning and a search of the w’ater turned up his body late that afternoon.Rice had been stationed at Fort Sumter at the time of the commencement of the Rebellion in 1861” and proudly claimed to have fired the first gun from the fortress at the rebels.
