Charge Driver With ManslaughMan Killed in Downtown CrashOne man was killed and a woman was injured Wednesday night in an automobile collision in downtown Harvey.Killed was Jerry A. Ward, 38, of 15616 Turlington avenue, Harvey. Listed in “fair condition Friday at Ingalls Memorial hospital was Violet P. McDonald, 65, of 514 West 111th street, Chicago.The driver of a car which police said was traveling eastbound on 154th street at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour was charged with manslaughter, driving too fast for conditions and disobeying a red light.ARRESTED AFTER being treated and released from Ingalls was Russell Buster, 30, of 15725 Turlington avenue, Harvey.Police Officer Ken A. Johnson said he was seated in a squad car in an alley between Ashland and Marshfield avenues shortly after 10 p.m. when he heard a loud noise and saw a car, later identified as being driven by Buster, traveling east on 154th street at speeds which Johnson estimated as more than 100 miles per hour.Johnson said the car ran a red light at 154th and Ashland and he put down some paper work to give chase. Before the police officer could move out of the alley, however, he heard the noise of a crash at 154th and I^xington.POLICE SAID the car driven by Buster struck a car being driven by Ward at the 154th and I^exington intersection. Ward’s car was northbound on Lexington when it was struck by the Buster car, police said.Ward’s car was hit in the left rear quadrant and propelled into the front of Buehler’s supermarket.Ward and Mrs. McDonald, a passenger in his car were forcibly ejected from the car and thrown to the street. Ward’s car struck a traffic light and signal control box before stopping against the front of the store.MEANWHILE, POLICE reported.Buster's car travelled 200 feet east where it struck a parked car occupied by Delores Payton, 22, of 15103 Iexington avenue, Harvey. Ms. Payton was taken to Ingallswhere she was treated and released.After striking the Payton car, Buster's car travelled another 45 feet before stopping, police said. Harvey Firedepartment paramedics worked for 30 minutes to extracate Buster from his car.
