• ♦ •--Names or Mrxixc Districts.—The wordCoso means fire, in-the dialect of the Indians inhabiting that region, and is not the name of the tribe, as was ot first supposed by the discoverers of those mines. So that the Coso District is in fact, the fire, or burnt district, which very appro- | priately applies to the greater portion of that region.Mono is the Indian term for stranger.Esmeralda is the Spanish for emerald.-- A *------San Franc isco.
