Western Lunatic Asylum. We are indebted to an unknown friend for the twenty-fifth Annual Report of the President and Directory of the Western Lunatic Asylum, for 185$. Not having had time to examine it ourself, we copy the following from the Parkersburg News :The number of patients in the asylum at the commencement of the year, was 31$; the number admitted during the year was 1S6; discharged, eloped and died, during the year, 98; leaving 330 oecu-Eants at the close of the year. Of these, y far the largest number wtre made lunatics by ill-health, and derangement of the system ; thirty-one were craied by intemperance: twenty-four by religious excitement; fourteen by disappointed love; ten by hard study ; seven by the use of tobacco, and three by sheer laainess.— Woo l county has furnisked five inmates, and Wirt county one. As a conclusive proof of the great importance to the public weal which this institution possesses, we have only to state, that during the last twedvc months, Jifly-one lunatics have become saae through the treatment there practised, and are now restored to their firesides and friends.
