KEARNS GETS EARLY START IN NEW OFFICEMichael Kearns, Vigo County’s new prosecutor, was on the job at 8 a.m. Thur-sday, January 2. He remained in the office most of the day. One courthouse wag noted that Kearns had already bested former prosecutor Ralph Berry’s record for time spent in the prosecutor's office in theCourt House.Berry conducted most of his businessfrom his law office, showing up in the courthouse only for trials and an occasional press conference. His non-attendance record during office hours was matched only by his political rival, formertreasurer Bernard Sweeney.Next to hell freezing over, the most unlikely event around here would have been Sweeney and Berry bumping into each other in the courthouse. Sweeney preferred late night visits to take care of pending business.
