Morse-Proxmire Debate in '65Carthage College began to draw well-known figures about mid-decade after Carthage’s other campus ceased to operate in Illinois. Appearances in 1965 included a concert by the Serendipity Singers, talks by author Louis Untermeyer andsyndicated newspaper columnist Dr. Eve Jones and a performance by pianist Theodore Ullmann.Spring, 1966, the college sponsored a Vietnam debate between Sen. Wayne Morse of Oregon and Sen. William Proxmire of Wisconsin.A lively beat also came to campus in 1966 when the Ramsey Lewis Trio appeared in a two-hour concert. That year students and community residents also welcomed a one-man show by Dutch pantomi-mist Frans Reynders and the First Chamber Dance Quartet of New York.Classical guitarist Rey de la Torre, pianist MargaretBaxtresser and jazz clarinetist Pete Fountain appearedin spring, 1967.
