TELLS OF RED CRUELTYMr. and Mrs. Harold Rogers have received the following letter from their son. Pvt. DeWayne C. Rogers, in which he tells how he was wounded in action in Korea:“I don’t know how you could have heard I was missing in action. The company I was in carried me missing for three days, but didn’t know ! I had been captured by the Chinks. Here is how it happened.“We made a counter attack one. morning. My platoon and half of another had to drive the Chinese off a hill and knock out three machine-gun nests so we could send the* wounded out by truck. We finally did it, but lost most of our men doing it. That was the morning I got hit. Floyd Shinn helped me back to the first aid station. They loaded us on a truck and we started for Hamhung where the marines were. On the way we were ambushed and the trucks wrecked, A few of us got away and hid until night. There were eight of us left. Just about daylight we made it to a shack and got inside.“We saw a patrol of Chinese, about two dozen 1 gues,s. We had just a little ammunition left but we decided not to give up without a fight. We held them off for maybe an hour, then ran out of ammunition. Then they captured us. They took me .and another boy by the name of Clark and tied our hands and feet, then put us in the middle of the road, to use us as a road block to stop any of our trucks that might try to break through, but it so happened none came. Three of our tanks came from the other way. They opened fire on the Chinks who took off for the hills. The tank commander cut us loose and took us back to Hamhung, then flew us to Yoka-hama, Japan. I don’t know what happened to the other six but I suppose they shot them. I guess you know what I mean when I say 1 waslucky.”Pvt Rogers’ address is: RA16325091 172 Station Hospital, APO 547, c-o P. M., San Francisco, Calif.
