I Geo. Wolf’s Son-in-Law Is Awarded!aaHonors for War Service.£South Bend (Ind.) Nowh-TIuips.Capt. Francis P. Mulcahy, of the marine aviation force in Haiti and former “News-Times” reporter, was recently presented with the distinguished Service Medal and cited for bravery while in action at the front in France. Capt. Mulcahy is the husband of Miss Elinor Wolf, former society editor of the “News-Times”, and daughter of Geo. E. Wolf formerly of South Bend and now associated with the Hotel La Salle in Chicago.The presentation was made at Port Au Prince, Haiti, where Capt. Mulcahy has been on active duty for several months. Accompanying the medal was the following citation.Sir—The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Medal to Capt. Francis P. Mulcahy for services during the World War as set forth in the following citation: Forextraordinary heroism as FlightCommander, Squadron A, First Marine Aviation Force, at the front in France.He not only participated success-V Id | fully in numerous bombing raids into enemy territory, but on Oct. 2,1918, when word was received that a body of French troops had been cut off from supplies for two days by the enemy and it was decided tofeed them by aeroplane.Capt. Mulcahy flew over the be-seiged troops at an altitude of one hundred feet and dropped food where these troops could get it. This performance was repeated four times, each time under intense fire from rifles, machine guns/ and artillery on the ground.Signed,Josephus Daniels.Besides the exploits mentioned in the citation, Capt. Mulcahy was credited with bringing down oneGerman plane after a running fightin which his machine was riddledwith bullets.Capt. Mulcahy graduated from the law department of Notre Dame university in 1914 and while attending the university worked as a re j porter for the “News-Times”. It was while working on the paper that he met Miss Wolf. They were married in New York City when' Capt.Mulcahy returned from France. ’
