OBITUARY OF T. S. YOUNGThomas Scott Young was born May .14, 1833 at Newcastle on Tyne England. Losing his mother at an early age he made his home with his sisters until the time of his comingto America.Having no schooling as a child he educated himself in early manhood by attending night school and by persistent home study.He held various positions oftrust in the Colleries of the Newcastle. District where he was employed for a number of years.While a young man he became greatly interested in the 'Methodist New Connection movement and was ordained as a lay minister of that denomination and was active in the duties of that office until he came to America in 1863 when he united withe the Methodist Episcopal church.While yet in England he was actively -interested in the temperance movement which came to birth at that time and did his share in the pioneer work of temperance both in England and America,While residing in East Palestine, Ohio he became a member of the masonic order and upon coming to Iowa he affiliated with Conopy Lodge No. 290 at Oxford, Iowa.Upon his arrival in the United States he settled in western Penn-isylvania and was united in marriage to Miss Jane E. Rutherford November first 1864.To this union were born nine children five of which died in infancy. Those surviving are Dr. W. R. Young of Ansley Nebraska and Mary, Nellie and Jennie of the home,In 1877 Mr. Young accompanied by his wife and children came to York Center, Iowa where the home has since been made and where he died the morning of Jan, 4, 1917aged 83 years, 7 months and 20 days.
