A Ranch Bigger than Rhode Island.The ranch of John S. Chisum, of Bosque Grande, New Mexico, was sold to Col. R. D. Hunter, of Bt Louis, the other day, for $219,000, one-half cash down. The purchase includes the 30,000 head of cattle now on the ranch. During the past summer Mr. Chisum has sold to Calorado, Kansas City and 8t Louis buyers about 20,000 head of beef cattle. Besides these, he has supplied some 8,000 head to contractors in New Mexico and Arizona. The ranch extends along the Peco6 river from Fort Sumner to Seven Rivers, a distance of 150 miles. This is its scoj# north and south. East and west it extends as far as a man mounted on a good horse, can ride during one sum mer; practically, as far on each side of the stream as stock can range without water. The range on both sides of the river is high, rolling prairie, covered with a thick, heavy growth of black gramma, a most nutritious grass. During this past summer the grass over much of this area has stood knee high to cattle. The residence buildings are situated in the center of the ranch. Stations, or cow-camne, are located on the river at intervals of 30 and 40 miles. Two hundred herders have been employed on the ranch the past summer. At one time this season the horses numbered 6,000 head. A suc-oessfu ralid by redskins reduced this number to about 1,000. Col. Hunter, the purchaser of this vast estate, will engage more exteusively than Mr. Chiamin the breeding business. He has just bought 200 saddle horses for use at the February round up.—Denver Neut.
