The Copperas Cove Police Department clears the case of the 1974 murder of Janet Lynn Goza who resided at 502 North Fourth Street, Copperas Cove, Texas.After obtaining information from Bell County regarding a subject in custody named Ronald L. Zellmer, date of birth 2 October, 1953, who had confessed to California police that he had stabbed a woman to death in Dana Peak Park, he had indicated that he had killed another woman in Central Texas in the same manner, upon the receipt of this information. Detectives Robert Peetz, William Hunter and Carol Sellers proceeded to Bell County to interrogate* the suspect.body with a knife. Zellmer described the type of wounds on the body, described the complete floor plan of the house and the furniture within.• Zellmer, who was picked up by the California police on a minor violation, is now under psychiatric care and therefore cannot be prosecuted for the crime.Recommendations will be made thathe be sent to the Russ State Hosptial for the Criminally Insane.Zellmer did admit that he knew andhad met Mrs. Goza on previous occasions at Fort Hood.This case was solved due to the oustanding work of a California police officer and the assistance of Texas Rangers and Bell County Deputies.
