The three greatbranches, the Synodical Lutheran, the United Lutheran and the Hauge Lutheran churches, named Rev. S. J. N. Ylvisaker, pastor of the Synodical Lutheran church of this city, as the man to raise the funds necessary to take care of the indebtedness against the Synodical Lutheran Institutions, and was given a three years’ leave of absence to engage in the work of raising $350,000. He has canvassed the states of Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, North and South Dakota, Nebraska, Washington, the coast region of Oregon, a portion of Texas and a section of Illinois, in all of which there are Synodical Lutheran congregations. He completed his work Christmas week, raising a total of $563,000. There are very few large donations to the fund, and the money has practically all been raised- among people of moderate means. The average subscription was about $50.
