Nicholson died at the home of his son Clarence Nicholson^n Sunday night last about four miles north of this city, and was hurried Monday in the Dixie cemetery by a large number of his friends and neighbors.His death was so sudden and the events preceding it were of such unusual character, that a special inquiry was instituted, before Justice Diamond, acting coroner, when the following incidents attending his last days and hours on earth were examined in detail.Mr, Nicholson came to Whitesbo**o on Saturday, the day before his death and applied for medicine at a drug store, which consisted of small tablets containing a small amount of morphine, on prescription filled by the clerk. He returned to McDonalds where he had been at work and on Sunday morning he visited his son ami family about tw’o miles distance. He at once complained of feeling quiU unwell and was carefully placed in bed. Later on he attracted attention by moaning and heavy breathing and when examined he was found to oe unconscious. /Dr. Younger w%«? called in, but it was soon ascertained that the patient waa^yond all medical skill and he die! about eleven o’clock.If'r. Younger states that he had evidently taken a large quantity of opium poison, probably the whole amount in his possession at one dose; ■ind according to the circumstances, with suicidal intent; and the finding °f the coroner sustained and was rendered and supported this theory.
