Adams, and Thomas George, of the Newburgh Committee, were present and offered fifty thousand dollars towards the purchase of Plum Point.Vt ith this last offer the Commissioners were prepared to close, as it was the most liberal which they had 'received, md the site wss in many respects superior to any other. Rut about half-past nice a committee of Poughkeepsians arrived, who were prepared to and (lid make an offer of eighty-five thousand dollars—the site offered being a piece of property known as the Roosevelt Place, about two miles out of Poughkeepsie This being beyond anything previously before them, the Commissioner* had no alternative bat to accept, which they did.
