Hopkinton, In, Jan. 9—Special: Mrs. Mary Cline, oldest living resi dent in the town of Hopkinton, quiet ly celebrated her 91st birthday at her home here yesterday. Her regular daily routine was changed only by the messages of felicitation of fered her by her many friends. In spite of her age Mrs. Cline is ac tive in the home. She enjoys to read and is able to spend much of her time in this pursuit. Helping with the home duties also entered her daily program. Mrs. Cline had been a resident of Topkinton for more than twenty years and has in this part of town for 85 years. One daughter, Miss Sarah Cline, and two sons, Thomas and Frank Cline, all of Hopkinton, were present in the home on the birthday anniversary. Born in Rippon, Yorkshire, Eng land on Jan. 7, 1840, Miss Mary Ad dyman spent her girlhood days in that locality. When six years of age, with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Addyman, she came to America. In spite of the intervening eighty-five years Mrs. Clinewell re members the experiences of that voyage. The journey was made across the broad Atlantic in a sailing vessel. Leaving England on Good Friday the voyagers arrived in the United States on June 25. The most thrilling and vivid recolection of the trip is a colision with an iceberg that threatened for a time to sing the ship. Mr. and Mrs. Addyman with the daughter settled on a farm near Epworth in Dubuque county. At the age of 22 Miss Addyman was married to Henry Cline. This couple established their home on a farm in Southfork township, Dela ware county a mile south of Hopkin ton. Mr. Cline passed away March 8, 1908, at the age of 79. Mrs. Cline is the mother of the following chil dren: Mrs. Ira Boots and Mrs. Marion Boots, both of Oregon; J. H. Cline of West Union, Ia.; Thomas A. and Frank E. Cline of Hopkinton; and Miss Sarah Cline, who lives with with her mother. Mrs. Cline’s philosophy in life makes her 91 years young to those who visit in the home instead of old.
