He came to Tifton in 1891 and worked for a while for Mr. H. H. Tift. He taught school two years and graduated at the State Normal School, Athens, in 1896. He afterwards taught in Berrien and Lowndes counties, and married Miss Janie Williams, of Fuyetteville, N. C., April 18th. 1900.
