Coal Deposit Encountered, Which is Considered a Favorable Sign Special to The Huronite. Gettysburg, S. D., Jan. 3βIt is affirmed with good authority that in drilling for oil at Gettysburg a seam of valuable coal deposit has been passed through by the drill and that it is of merchantable quality and could be profitably mined. This is taken as an indication that oil will yet be struck in the well now being drilled by the Fox Oil company. The news bureau at Pierre has several times prematurely announc ed that oil has been found at Gettys burg, but it is true that oil sand some inches thick has been passed through by the drill. This is said to be an ideal har binger that oil will be found down in the present well, and drilling con tinues both night and day, and some times even on the Sabbath, so eager is the company to get down to where it believes the oil will be discovered.
