A Beautiful Imposing Stone.—YV e are in receipt ot a most beauti- I ful Imposing Slone, from the Marble Q uairy of Mr. Thos. W. Baker, , ot Manitowoc. It is 7 feet 8 inchesiong and 28 inches wide; has a tiue compact grain, and every ap^ pearance of being far more durable than even the best Vermont marble that we have ever seen used for thatpurpose. Its surface has the smooth*ness, and almost the polish, of Italian marble, and appears to be susceptibleof quite as high a finish. Its evident qualities for durability, however, are its strongest recommendation, for it I is well known to printers that the alkali used in oieauing the ink fromtypes, alter use, tends to produce disintegration of the particles of most kinds of stone, and thus render them defective for imposing forms upon. Some, indeed, will crumble so as tobecome almost useless in two or three« 3* ' =years. /The Manitowoc Marble we believe j to be in a great measure free from tnat objection, and we recommend all of our contemporaries who wish a superior article at a reasonable price to send their order to Mr. Thoa.
