THE GROOVE KINGS/Into the Groove Age (Sound Solutions).This Montreal duo packs some sweet and catchy pop sounds into their second CD, Into the Groove Age.They're at their best with a slightly bluesy edge or when they take a punchy or jazzy angle to a song. Songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Howard Forman often shows a deft and tasteful hand at guitar. However, the songs do tend too often towards light, inconsequential pop.Irene Marc's subtle rasp of a voice is a delight. It’s plaintive and evocative, and works wonders on such songs as Tell Me.Marc’s voice is strong enough to easily overlook the fact that there’s little substance to several of these songs about falling in, and out of love.***John Lyons
