Schmidt to head Nap forceNAPOLEON — George Schmidt has been named chief of the Napoleon City police department, replacing Richard Rudolph who retired Dec. 31.Schmidt, 35, a Napoleon resident, has been a member of the force since 1972 and was most recently a lieutenant. He will now appoint a lieutenant to fill the position.He reportedly was the highest scorer on a civil service examination.Rudolph, 52, retired after serving with the city’s police force since 1957. He was appointed chief in 1970.
