(Edyth Carlson) The city of Madrid has a new city fire truck and is as well equipped as any fire truck used by fire departments in large cities. It is mounted on a 2-ton Ford truck chassis, is equipped with a Hale 500 gallon water tank and has the latest equip ment, including fire extinguish er and fog nozzles, and quarter turn valves for turning on water pressure. The truck is also equipped with hose heaters. Proper signal equip ment of latest design is mounted on the truck. A whirling red light is mounted on top of the cab, and the siren with a red flashing light is attached to the left front fender and to pre vent accidents from the rear, two red lights are mounted high on each side. The local department bought the truck on a $9,000 bond issue. That amount pays for the interest and some of the extra equip ment which includes new hose. It was purchased from the Fire Fighting Equipment Company of Des Moines at a special rate on the basis that it could be used as a show model for the purpose of selling similar trucks to other cities like Madrid. Before the truck was driven to Madrid it had to pass a fire underwriters test, which was done in Des Moines around two weeks ago, which was a rigid test. It must pump 500 gallons of water per minute for a six hour period, powered by a 138 horse power V-8 truck motor. It scored 528 gallons of water per minute for 6 hours (Staff photo by Jim Anderson) Gerald Patterson to plan for the parcel post sale Jan. 26.
