Private funeral services for Joe Harris Barker, prominent high school student, who died at his grandparents’ home, 501 Steele street, Sunday following a two-day illness with epidemic meningitis, were held at the residence yester day by Rev. Tom Alderman Sykes, Friends minister. Many friends gathered in the yard for the services. Flowers were carried by Misses Louise Jackson Wiliams, Margaret Ham lin, Elizabeth McLaurin, Lois Snipes, Anna Mendenhall, Marga ret Thompson, Elizabeth Oakes, Carmen Oakes, Mrs. June Barker, Mrs. W. R. Kester, Mrs. L. J. Har per and Mrs. Spencer Jackson. Pallbearers were June Barker, T. W. Winslow, L. L. Farlowe, Henry White, A. W. Watkins, and H. A. Oakes. Services at the grave were in charge of Prof. L. R. Johnston, high school principal. A memorial service was held earlier in the day at the high school. Miss Meek Beard, junior class supervisor, presided. Others taking part were Gilbert Clinard, Prof. L. R. Johnston, Eleanor Stephens, Edgar Snider and Hazel Scoggins. A large basket of flow ers which was on the stage dur ing the service was carried to the home as a token from the class.
