CHILDREN IN INDUSTRIAL SCHOOL REMEMBERED No bunch of children was ever more bountifully blessed with Yuletide joy than were the little folks in the In dustrial School this year, more than 75 individuals and retail stores having joined with the Mississippi Humana Society in the making of this Christ mas an occasion of happy memories for them in addition to the organiza tions that gave generous help. — First of these latter was the Gulf port Lodge of Elks who sent out a generous order of staple groceries. Then came the Gulfport Grocery Co.'s usual Yuletide remembrance—2 ’“mys tery boxes,” one for each child, with a large basket of goodies for the sup erintendent.These boxes were given out to the children from the Christmas tree and contained some of every kind of fruit and dainty such as little peo ple love best. Next came Geo. C. Poole and his committee from the Presbyterian Sun day School, who brought out the an nual offering from his church—two cars full of good things to eat, consist ing of staple groceries, nuts, candies, fruits, canned goods, preserves and even some dolls, games and toys. There was also a splendid donation from the St. John’s (Episcopal) Guild of Ocean Springs, who brought fruit, preserves, clothing, bedding, por tieres, etc. There were also two nice checks from Mrs. Verader and Airs. Van Alstyne of Ocean Springs. And the little Sunshine Girls of Gulfport brought a large box of pres ents all wrapped up and ready for the tree with dainty little baskets of can dy that aided in the decorations. The next visitors were Mr. Hall and Mr. Causey, a committee from the Gulfport Lodge Knights of Pythias, who brought a nice surprise package for each child. On being opened by the delighted children they were found to contain a pretty sweater, a pair of hose and a little toy or other remembrance. They also brought a large basket of fruits, nuts and can dies from H. D. DeSaussure and two beautiful dolls which were the gift of I. B. Ray of the Bee Hive to the two smallest girls. Mr. Putnam of the Amerstand Can dy Co. sent two big boxes of Betty Lou cakes and about forty pounds of candy. The Crescent Bakery sent a large fruit cake and a quantity of Hostess cakes, and from Gordon Smith of Mobile came his usual gift of fruit cake. From Norris Candy Co. came a 50- pound box of stick candy and Win. Estopinal brought out a 50-pound bucket of chocolate candy. Mr. and Mrs. P. N. Howell came down from Howison with a 100-pound sack of pecans and a case of syrup and an other sack of pecans was sent by C E. Pratt of Wiggins. Co. C. Swetman of Perkinston sent a bundle of nice towels and from the Southern Paper Mill at Bogalusa there came five very pretty all wool blankets. The Alden Mills sent twelve dozen pairs hose and the Reiss Mer cantile Co. eight all wool sport sweat ers, E. Murray sent a half of a year. This following a gift made two weeks before by Mr. and Mrs. Mincher of a quarter of beef gave a very welcome addition to the daily menu. Among the many others who have the sincere thanks of the Humane So ciety for their kind remembrance of these children at Christmas time are Tyler Gordon McCarley, the Ideal Grocery Co., Mrs. M. M. Among Biloxi friends who contri buted to the Yuletide joy were W. V. Joyce Co., J. C. Penny Co., Geo. Tremmel, E. Glennan, Ott Oyster Co., Biloxi Mercantile Co., Jitney Jungle, Piggly-Wiggly, Guarantee Shoe Store, Deer Island Fish and Oyster Co., Mr.Desrochés, Rutledge’s Gift seve Fashion Shop and Anderson's Hat Shop. Among the delightful events of the season was the coming at sunrise Christmas morning of a choie of Bi loxi's sweetest singers who delighted children and grown-ups with some beautiful carols. Much appreciation is also felt for the pleasures of the week before that were provided by the girls of Gulf Park College, the B. Y. P. A. of Bi loxi and Mr. Carley's Sunday School class of bright young girly. Also to many other friends who left gifts and good wishes at the door without disclosing their names.
