MISHAWAKA MUSINGS _ By Stuart H. Carroll. -------“HANK’’The Ball Band Banquet, January 6, 1921 Hotel Mishawaka. They were gathered from the Far Away to shake hands once again,The youths with happy faces—the grey haired, smiling men;And some there were from Frisco town where summer always is,While others hailed from Til ~ew Yawk where fizz may still be fizz.Down from the icy Northlands t ime another of the clan,And from the Southern border was the Texas Ball-Band man;In any state you think of—was one who came from there But all said “Mishawaka, you’re the fairest of the fair!0, there was F. G. Eberhart,And A. D. Warner, too;Fink and Williams smiling sat And Clark might wink at you;But out of all the joyous gang Of hearts a-throhbing time,Thrice happy was the grand old man Whose eyes were twinkling blue; They call him Henvv Beiger At church or in the bank—But at the Ball-Band banquet They only called him Hank! And some were there who hit the trail just twenty years ago Their hair’s not much to talk about (one loses it, you know!)They’ve watched the house they labor for spring, mushroom like, ahead Until the world has heard about the product trade-marked red;Year after year they’ve started out, just as they do today With hearts that beat in raphrimeie, a-spteding on their way;For well they know a welcome lies in every town and nook And well they know that merchants wait the Ball-Band’s man and book;Returning they come trooping back with orders in their handAnd Mishawaka smiles again—she’s proud of her Ball-Band!0, there was F. G. Eberhart,And A. D. Warner, too ;Fink and Williams smiling sat And Clark might whir at you;Barnes and “Studie” laughed again—But one with eyes of blue Appeared to me the happiest Among the old and true; It’s written Henry Beiger On his baptismal blank—But at the Ball-Band banquet They only called mm Hank!
