THE HOUNSLOW POISONING CASE.The remains of Dr. William Whitfield Edwardef were interred at Ileston cemetery, near Hounslow, on Monday morning. The deceased being an officei of the 8th Middlesex LUtie Volunteers, the funeral was conducted with, full military honou s, and attracted a large concourse of spectators. The funeral procession was headed by the baud of the above regiment and a firing party of 40 belonging to the Hounslow detachment. Following in the rear of the mourning coaches were a large number of private carriages and the.officers, non-commissioned officers, and men of the deceased’s corps. Most of the business establishments in the town were partially closed, and there were other manifestations of respect and sympathy. The tragic affair continues to be the principal topic of conversation. Much commiseration is felt for the widow and children of thedeceased.About 3,000 persons assembled on Monday night outside Dr. Whit marsh’s house, and, despite the efforts of a strong body of police, broke every window in the establishment, after which they burnt the doctor’s effigy on a vacant piece of land opposite his residence. His carriage was also broken tp pieces. Theuioters did not confine their mischief to Albemarle house. The public vaccination office, used by Dr. Whitmarsh at ano ther part of the town, also came in for a share of their vengeance. Large crowds also assembled ou Tuesday and Wednesday nights, but they were kept in check by the strong force of police*Two young lads, named Arivmr Nott and Thomas May, were remanded on Tuesday at Brentford police-court, on a charge of maliciously damaging glass in the windows of Albemarle house, the resilience of Dr. Whitmarsh. A public subscription las been opened for their defence. fDr. Whitmarsh is stated to have left the town for ;he present, and the coroner stated he would not be jailed at the adjoprned inquest to-day (Thursday).
