Rites for Carl Herem I held Sunday afternoonCarl 0. Herem, 88, a resident of I the Rake community since 1902, i died unexpectedly at his home on I Thursday. He had been in failing health for a number of years.Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday from Zion Lutheran Church. The Rev. Keith Tomlinson officiated and burial was in West Cemetery.A quartet composed of Victor Larson, Glenn Larson, Earnie Halvorson and Victor Matthias sang “All is Well” during the service. Mrs. Roy Anderson was organist Pallbearers were Oscar Er-dahl, Alvin Erdahl, Roger Drake, Daril Amberger, Herman' Thompson and Irvin Thompson. The Winter Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.Mr. Herem, a son of Knut and Bertha (Rod) Herem was born January 26, 1888, in Roland. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and attended school'at Radcliffe.In 1902, Mr. Herem moved to the Rake area where he was married to Helen Christenson oh December 26, 1917.With the exception of a few years spent in North Dakota, .the Herems had spent all of their married life in the Rake com-minity, and had observed their S9th wedding anniversary last Stonday. Until retiring in 1960, Mi*. Herem had worked as a farmer and builder.He is survived by his wife, Helen; four children, JustinHerem of Madison, S.D., Mrs. A1 (Pearl) Peternel of St. Charles, HI., Glen Herem of Portland, Oregon, and Maynard Herem ofCARL HEREMEau Claire, Wise; nine grandchildren, Darll Amberger, Ellen (Amberger) Rabold, Paul Amberger, Rosemary (Amberger) Tauer, Rex Peternell, Randy Peternell, Karen Herem, Thomas Herem and Jennifer Herem; and 11 greatgrandchildren.Mr. Herem was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, a sister, a son and a great-grandson.
