The BeatDylanonthe MoveThe momentum is building and the career of BOB DYI-AN is on the move onceagainThose of us who remember Bob from his early days of success back in the early and mid-’60s may tie a bit disappointed in that his songs really don’t have that distinctive, rather rebellious, protesting attitude that they had several years ago. In the ’60s, a Dylan record was “distinctively Dylan,”whereas nowadays this just isn't the case.Just a couple of years ago, Bob went the country music route much to our surprise then he sort of faded, and he not only ceased to record, but he gave up all live appearances as well. One thing about Bob Dylan, he certainly was and still is unpredictable. Having closed out the year with “Knockin' on Heaven’s Door,” Bob has put himself back on top o.” the musical ladder and now wewait to see how 1974 will be for the hermit of the recording industry.MUCH TO the delight of many of his fans of yesterday and the new opes of today. Bob will be doing his first concert tour in eight years. The group known as theBAND who helped his switch from folk to rock but never until now recorded with him will be touring along with Bob. Judging by the Band’s new single release, thev are a funky rock group coming forth withrhythmic bouncy sounds as displayed on “Ain’tGotNoHome.” Dylan’s new release with the group to start the new year is an old Elvis Presley song believe it or not tagged “A Fool Such As I.”It wasn’t until the announcement of thisrecording that rather unusual comparison became surprisingly clear. Strange as it might seem. Bob Dylan's career can in a way be compared closely to Presley’s. Think about it, a superstar who has run the musical gamut in as far as what type ofuto Industry WatchesKitemusic to record, then a long, long absence from the concert trail only to come backwstronger than ever before; an artist equally at home with a rock song, a ballad, a country or religious song.It just may bo that because of Dylan’s lack of appearances on stage and TV and radio for the past eight years, he'll be more in demand now than he ever dreamed possible. While the original Dylan fans of the '60s may not quite be able to savvy him doing oldie Elvis songs. I’m sure that there will be plenty of new fans available who are quite willing to accept him in his new bag. This is a nostalgia loving era we’re in, and it could be just what the doctor ordered to start the Bob Dylan magic rolling all over again. As mentioned earlier, he’s unpredictable. We never know what he’ll come up w ith next, so who is to say that he is going to stay in the oldie Elvis bag° Maybe his follow-up releases w ill be along the lines of “Like a Rolling Stone” or “Positively Fourth Street.” Come to think of it, since we are so nostalgia hungry these days, maybe an actual re-release of one or two of these wouldn’t be a bad idea at all!DALEZAHN
