During the year 1975 there were confined in the Greene county jail, on various charges, 141 persons— some of whom were women. Of the charges placed against those who were incarcerated, intoxication leads the list—sixty-one. Sentences on every charve imaginable were boarded out at the county's expense. Of the total number of persons confined during the year all were not serving jail sentences, but were confined awaiting trial. Some were acquitted and others,were sent to the reformatory or to state’s prison. Notably among those who were sent to Michigan City waff/ Frank Torri celli, convicted of murder in the first degree and sent up for life. He shot and killed a Linton night po liceman last March who caught him in the act of robbing a store at that place j come heavy jail sentences were served, the longest of Wiif Ciwygge for prostitution and associating— two cases for 150 days and three cases for ninety days. Of the num ber for intoxication, twenty-four were sent to the penal farm to serve sentences of various lengths, the longest sentences of which were against two men from Jasonville of 150 days each. Of the number of prisoners give penal farm sentences, ten were fro Linton, nine from Jasonville, 1 from Bloomfield, two from Wor ington and one from Newberry.
