Prof. Sedgwick’s Paper Scores the Health Boards. New Orleans, La Ignorant In competent and cowardly boards of health throughout the country, with pointed intimations to local boards of health, city and state, was the theme of paper by Prof. W. T. Sedgwick, vice president of the section on ex perimental medicine of the Secience Association Monday. Dr Sedgwies being absent, Prof. L. A. Metz of the Medical College read the address, and occasionally threw in strong interjec tions of his own with reference to lo cal boards. The address is all the more stringent because Dr. Sedgewick reacquainted with the local aid. “Throughout America our boards of health, as at present constituted, are generally incompetent, ignorant and cowardly,” declared Prof. Sedgwick. “The experiment has been tried, and fully tried, of placing the administra tion of such boards in the hands of mere place seekers, incompetent and worthless, and the experiment has failh.” “Why can we not have a_ board which will experiment with obtaining control of milk supplies?” Here Dr. Metz interjected: a should Ike to add to Dr. Sedgwick's paper, here, that in New Orleans the milk dealers control 1,500 votes, and attempts at examining the milk sim ply have met this fact and been van quished.”
