Washington, January 1--Colonel J. Hampton Hoge, of Virginia, United States Consul to Amoy, has been dropped from rlie consular ser vice as a result of an investigation of the charges against bis integrity. Secretary Gresham has sent letters to Senator Daniel and to Colonel Hoge informing them of this action.
