C., has done well to put a heavy tax on the Bale of cigarettes. If this tax were made national it would effectually end cigarette smoking among boys. Anything which will drive out of the market cheap cigarettes will be a blessing, for those which cost as much as a cigar can never come within reach of boys. Every year sees an increase of the cigarette habit, which is as common now among mere lads of ten or twelve as it was a decade ago among youths of eighteen or twenty.” A similar tax might with advantage be imposed in Canada, where cigarette smoking is becoming far too common.There is but one member of the House
