Eldon Notes.The bridge carpenter force, under Foreman Geo. Calveit, has been largely reduced, and all extra gaDgs from Eldon to Chicago have been discontinued. The policy of the Rock Island in view of the marked fall in its stock lately, is to largely curtail expenses.As Freight Engineer “Old Reckless,”sometimes known as Silas Phillips,wasbringing a train through theyards fromthe east, he ran into No. 19 freight,about to go west, and derailed severalcars, making kindling wood out ofone of them, and injuring his own engine, Mogul No. 260, considerably.
