W. Shultz 4 Oo., this city, for $80.00, leas their commission, which they generously contributed towards tho com- . mendable act. * To obtain tbo above amount a subscription paper (unknown to her) was started by neighbors, prominent among whom were Messrs. John Reeves, Joseph Vanakiver, George Dodge and others, and willingly signed by the citizens of Camden and those residing Between it and Longh Chanel and vicinity, in amounts ranging from 2$c. to $6; and Xmas evening some thirty or forty of the donors put in an appearance at her residence, among whom was Miss Carrie Vanskiver, who, at the proper moment presented Miss L. with the baggy, accompanied by a neat little speech appropriate to the occasion, to which the recipient happily responded, despite the surprise, at the conclusion of which a sumptuous spread was tackled and readily stowed ; away by the elf-invited guests; who at a seasonable hour returned to their resjpective homes, carrying with thorn their kindliest wishes for her, to whom they bad so substantially paid their respects, with hopes that these midnight robbers might never duplicate their hellish act by again robbing her of this geueroua gift.
