Terrible Tragedy in Van Buren Tp. ; —A Yovso Mas Shoots Himself Through ; tub II f ,i» —One of the most shocking case of suicide that has ever been our 1 t to chronicle, occurred in Van Cureu township, thi-county, on the evening of the 28th ult., the victim of which was a son of Mr. Nelson Banning, who resides on Section llt;, in that township, aged about 22 years. The partiou ! iars of the tragedy, and the causes which led to it, as near as we can gather them, are about las follows :About one year ago young Banning went out into one of the western counties in this! State and took up some land, having nn understanding with his father that when he had made some sped lied improvements upon the i land he was to lecelve a certain sum of money.A short time since he letarned home and de-; inandcd the money. In the meantime, how-;ever, his father learned that the lmprovoments i | had not been made, and so refused to pay over ] j the money. This was the beginning of tho ! trouble between father and son which was tlt; end so terribly an I tragically. A few days of i mutual crimination and recrimination ensued, until on tbe evening of the 28th, young Banning requested the use of his fathot’s buggy to go to Lyons, This was refused, and the lumber wagon tendered instead. High words ensued, when the son, exasperated to frenzy by his fancied wrongs, rushed into the house and seizing his father’s revolver, passed out uto the back yard, and before the horrified j family could interfei e, put the pi«tol to bis ! Lead, just above the right ear, and fired, scattering his brains over the yard. He was removed into the house Immediately, but lived but ,\ few moments A coroner's inquest was : doubtless held upon tho body, but what the : result of its deliberations was we have not yet , I learned. Mr. Banning is one of the oldest [ and wealthiest settlers in Van Huron town-I ship, and has the sympathies ol the entire ! community in his ter.ible affliction. — ■ —MARRIED-- | January 2d, 1870, by the Rev.
