Plans for a war memorial and a number of community improve ments are the projects taken up by the Greater Eastport Civic Association, Inc., according to EH. Kendall Barber, who has been elected to a second term as presi dent. Plans for the war memorial were initiated before his first term, and drawings have been made. It will be a living memorial con sisting of a large tree and shrubs located on the corner of Sixth street and Severn avenue. Where the present fence is will be a series of cedar trees and small shrubs. There will be four concrete bench es highly polished and a stone, with a plaque. Dwarf canvas wil be planted around the tree. A permanent lighting circuit will be installed so the tree can be used as a Christmas tree’ Fire Department . Community improvements sup ported by the association include a community clean up, better roads and better lighting. The needs of the fire department will se Bet attention. “Citizens don’t realize the im portance of the fire department,” commented Mr. Barber. “With out the fire department, insurance rates would be prohibitive.” A carnival will be sponsored jointly by the Civic Association and the Eastport Fire Department.
